In the Spring of 2017, Longmen Art Projects launched its second gallery in Hong Kong’s culturally vibrant South Island Art District. As Asia develops into a unified region, its comprehensive Asian art & culture ideology also solidifies as a cohesive artistic movement. Our mission, following the launch of Longmen Art Projects - Hong Kong, is to become an integral part of the cultural landscape of Hong Kong and its unique role within the international art market, advance our accomplishments from our Taipei and Shanghai eras, and expand further into the “Longmen Art Projects – Hong Kong era” as we explore the field of modern and contemporary Asian art.
Looking back on the different eras in Longmen’s history (1975-2002, 2002-2008, 2010-2016), it is immediately apparent that, in every instance, our initial aim and the eventual development of our business during each era have always prioritized one common goal – to connect with the pulse of the local cultural landscape. In Taiwan, from the East and Fifth Moon art movements that spurred waves of modern Chinese art in the 1960s, to the growth of the primary art market establishment of oversea Chinese art in the mid-1990s; the bloom of Asian modern and contemporary art marketplace in Hong Kong towards the turn of the millennium; and in China, the ascension of the Chinese contemporary art onto the global art stage in the mid-2000s; along with the emergence of the primary art market in China, etc. Through it all, Lung Men Art Gallery, now known as Longmen Art Projects, has not only witnessed but also played a significant role in the promotion of fine art to new heights, growing and evolving alongside the Asian art market’s evolution and progression.
