Chuang believes that “paintings contain their own likenesses," that one can only behold nature, not imitate it. When confronting the intrinsic likeness of nature, inspiration wells up, and the artist applies the brush with direct inspiration. Clarity of mind penetrates the brush, billowing forth from the brush.
